Why we tithe
In the old days, belonging came with dues. Members of lodges, clubs, and fraternal orders all contributed to keep their communities thriving — because they understood that shared life takes shared investment. At Friend Cult, our monthly tithes continue that tradition. They fund the things that make this whole experiment possible: quarterly club nights, creative projects like art and swag, and the operational costs that keep the cult running. A small portion also supports the people tending to the fires — the cult leaders — whose time and labor keep the machinery of connection humming.
We know that modern culture has taught us to expect community for free, even as we pay for nearly everything else. But real community has always been built by those willing to give something of themselves — time, energy, care, and yes, money. Contributing your tithe isn’t a transaction; it’s a vote for a culture you want to see more of in the world. It says: I believe groups like this should exist, and I’m willing to help sustain them. Together, we’re reimagining what belonging looks like in a culture that has forgotten its importance.
